Coaching Beyond Behavior: A Narrative Approach to Lasting Transformation
Organizations are asking coaching to accomplish more than ever before. Leaders are expected to develop people, navigate complexity, strengthen engagement, improve performance, and help others adapt to constant change. Coaching has become an essential way organizations pursue these outcomes.

Many coaching conversations focus on improving behaviors, solving immediate challenges, or achieving meaningful goals. These conversations create real value. Yet some of the most enduring transformations occur when we move beyond behavior and explore the stories that shape identity.

In this engaging session, participants will discover the distinction between coaching that informs and coaching that transforms while exploring how story influences identity, perception, and what clients believe is possible.

Using a Narrative Coaching lens, attendees will learn practical questions and subtle coaching shifts that help clients move beyond insight toward greater agency and authorship—while remaining fully aligned with the ICF Core Competencies.

Whether coaching inside organizations or in private practice, participants will leave with immediately applicable tools to deepen conversations, strengthen developmental outcomes, and create change that lasts long after the coaching conversation ends.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize when a coaching conversation is best served by a transactional approach and when it can be expanded toward transformational development.

  • Apply narrative questions and conversational shifts that help clients move beyond behavior change toward greater awareness, agency, and authorship while remaining aligned with the ICF Core Competencies.

  • Describe how story, identity, and perception influence sustainable change, strengthening coaching conversations across organizational and individual coaching contexts.

About the Speaker: Jennie Antolak, MA, MCC

Nobody gives us a map for becoming. That's probably why Jennie Antolak has made a career helping people navigate it.

As co-founder and President of Learning Journeys – The International Center of Coaching and an ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC), Jennie has spent more than two decades coaching leaders, organizations, and coaches through the wonderfully awkward, often messy, and deeply rewarding experience of becoming. Drawing on narrative coaching, neuroscience, and human development, she helps people recognize the stories that shaped who they are, honor the wisdom those stories carried, and create space for who they are becoming.

Known for blending deep insight with wit, Jennie helps people find the humor in being human—because growth is hard enough without taking ourselves quite so seriously. Participants leave with more than new skills. They leave seeing themselves, one another, and the future differently.

Jennie holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Development, a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, and believes the goal isn't simply better coaching or better leadership—it's becoming the kind of person capable of creating a future worth living into.
