MasterClass:
How to Support Men to Open up Through Coaching with Evan Spargo, MCC
As many of us aware there is a mental health crisis going on globally, particularly seen in men. Men are notorious to go through a silent battle within themselves and have been conditioned to resist revealing parts of who they are they deem vulnerable. Which on the surface may seem admirable, but deep down there is conflict, tension and an intensity that seems scary to touch. So the battle continues, deeply impacting their personal and professional growth.
Men find it challenging to open up, as the perceived threats, consequences and pain of doing so outweigh the perceived benefits.
The common symptoms of these men include:
- Unwillingness to talk about their struggles and fears
- Constant anxiety and stress
- Unhealthy behaviours and coping mechanisms to numb
- Defensiveness and reactivity to conflict
- Avoiding connection and intimacy
The challenge of helping these men, is they resist asking for help.
As coaches, we have the opportunity and the skillset to help the men of the world to open up. To open themselves up to safety, support and healing. A space where they get to finally meet themselves where they are at, acknowledge their internal experience and learn ways to navigate themselves in a new and healthy way. All through the power of coaching.
